8 Newly Proposed Veterinary Colleges in India: Opportunities and Challenges for Aspiring Veterinarians

In recent years, the Indian government has taken steps to increase access to veterinary education in the country. As a result, a number of new private veterinary colleges have been proposed and granted permission by Veterinary Council of India (VCI) and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Government of India.

These colleges will offer admission to the first and second year BVSc & AH programme, with the renewal of permission for the third and fourth year programme subject to meeting the minimum requirements of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) Rules, 2017 and the Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education (MSVE), 2016 Regulations.

Here are some of the newly proposed Private veterinary colleges in India:

  1. Sanskaram College of Veterinary & Animal Science, Jhajjar, Haryana: This college, proposed by the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Hisar , has been granted permission to admit students to the BVSc & AH programme for the academic year 2021-22 and 2022-23.
  2. RPS College of Veterinary Sciences, Satnali Road, Balana, Dist. Mahendergah, Haryana: This college, proposed by the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, has also been granted permission to admit students to the BVSc & AH programme for the academic year 2021-22 and 2022-23.

  8. M.R. College of Veterinary Science and Research Centre, Hassanpur, Jhajjar: This college, proposed by the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar, has been granted permission to admit students to the BVSc & AH programme for the academic year 2021-22 and 2022-23.

It is important to note that while these colleges have been granted permission to admit students to the first and second year of the BVSc & AH programme, their renewal of permission for the third and fourth year, as well as their final recognition, will be subject to meeting the minimum requirements of the VCI Rules, 2017 and the MSVE, 2016 Regulations.

These regulations cover a range of criteria, including infrastructure and facilities, faculty and staff qualifications and experience, student to faculty ratios, and curriculum requirements.

Veterinary colleges must demonstrate that they meet these criteria in order to obtain renewal of permission and final recognition.

In summary, several new Private veterinary colleges in India are authorized to offer the BVSc & AH program. While these colleges have been approved for admission to the first and second year of the programme, they will need to meet the minimum requirements set by the VCI and MSVE regulations to obtain renewal of permission and final recognition.

These regulations are in place to ensure that veterinary education in India meets a high standard of quality and prepares graduates to meet the needs of the veterinary profession.
